There was so much to be excited for on my first trip to Salut Kitchen Bar in Tempe. I couldn’t decide if I was more intrigued by the idea of Hummus Nachos or a huge dog-friendly patio because anywhere with delicious food that I can take my pup is aces in my book.
With the weather finally cooling down and showing that beautiful Arizona fall weather we all brag about to East coasters, it was the perfect opportunity to check out the sprawling dog-friendly patio at Salut. Bonus – it was ASU game night! With tvs sprinkled around this comfy, well-lit patio, it was the perfect spot to join the crowd for some delicious bites and game night energy. The decor lends itself to a relaxed, European style feel but with an elegant twist that makes this a great spot to enjoy a date, a casual night out, or game night like we were ready for!
Salut Kitchen Bar has been voted the Best Wine Bar in Tempe, and it’s no wonder after seeing all the specials on bottles and the extent of the list! But don’t forget about the cocktails! I made sure to try two on this visit. My first was the Mango & Grapefruit Vesper with mango vodka, Tanqueray gin, sauvignon blanc, and clover and honey simple syrup. The mango essence provides a crisp and very fresh and fragrant hint to the smooth sips with just a hint of clover and honey. Definitely a win! Then I went with the Fig & Thyme cocktail with Ketel One vodka, thyme simple syrup, fresh lime juice, and dried figs. The garnish of thyme and the addition of the muddle figs made this my absolute favorite and a must try.
The menu at Salut is a mouth-watering mix of Mediterranean American inspired dishes with and innovative twist. We didn’t want to leave a stone unturned so we turned to our super friendly, helpful server to guide us on this culinary excursion. He recommended that we definitely start with the Salut Sampler since this was our first time exploring the menu. This glorious plate of goodies is served on a beautiful board and chock-full of surprising, savory twists. A crisp caprese salad with very fresh tomatoes, mac and cheese bites, salut fries, and the famed hummus nachos started our evening. The salut fries were a dangerously addictive treat with a mix of herbs, feta, and parmesan to serve as the centerpiece for the sampler, but I could not get enough of the hummus nachos! Don’t let the name throw you for a loop, these were a super tasty accompaniment of fresh crispy pita with homemade hummus, topped with red onion, feta, and pomegranate seed; drizzled with a balsamic glaze. The pomegranate and feta were a welcomed addition to this salty, savory dish and helped with a bit of freshness and innovative twist to a Mediterranean staple!
For entrees, we went with the Malbec Burger and the highly-recommended Mediterranean Chicken Kebob. Yes, you heard that right – Malbec Burger. Aside from being huge fans of Malbec to drink, our curiosity took over for this one. This juicy burger is served with melted provolone, caramelized onion, wild mushroom, Malbec caramel sauce, lettuce, tomato, red wine aioli, all nestled between a brioche bun. If you’re not drooling yet, you will be when I tell you about the kebob! Two hot skewers of chicken and veggies come out with this dish. Charred perfectly and paired with a fresh tzatziki sauce, I didn’t think this could get any better – but it did! Not only did I get homemade hummus to go with my skewers and accompanying pita, but I made sure to get the special Sriracha hummus. Holy moly! What a treat. Absolutely make sure you ask for this delicious, spicy hummus when you go in! Tell them I sent you!
So go ahead and grab your dog, your friends, your family, and your significant other and head down to Salut Kitchen Bar for their DAILY happy hour, delicious treats, extensive wine list, and relaxed atmosphere. And if that doesn’t do it for you, the “make it yourself” smores for dessert certainly will!
Cheers and Bon Appétit, Food Lovers!
